Financial resilience report

Seafarers' UK have just launched their new research report, “Fishing without a safety net”.

The report is aiming to help policy makers understand how the financial ‘safety net’ for UK fishers might be strengthened, and has investigated the financial resilience of small-scale coastal fishers, their families, and communities.

The report was launched at an online webinar on Thursday 8th October and several speakers joined the event to discuss the rationale, findings, and policy implications of the report. They included:

  • Dr Madeleine Gustavsson, lead researcher on the Women in Fisheries research project

  • Dr Paul A. Jones, reader in the social economy at Liverpool John Moores University

  • Deborah Layde (Grant Director) and Catherine Spencer (CEO) from Seafarers UK

  • Miles Cowley who manages the Seafarer’s Advice and Information Limited (SAIL)
