An end and new beginnings…

After two and a half years, this month marks the official end of the Women in Fisheries research project.

But it’s not over!

Whilst the funded part of the project has finished, there are still plenty of research-related outputs to come over the next couple of years.

Several academic papers have been submitted to scientific journals and are at different stages of the review process. These will be uploaded to our resource library as soon as possible.

We also have an exciting film about women in fisheries which we’re hoping to share shortly.

The Women in Fisheries project, its publications, and activities will continue to live on and contribute to informing fisheries policy for many years to come.

We wish to thank all our participants, collaborators, and funders for making this project as successful, enjoyable, informative and interesting as it has been. It would not have been possible without you!

For those of you who want to ‘get your hands dirty’ and work towards increasing the recognition of women in the UK fishing industry, please get in touch with the UK Women in Fisheries CIC – a newly formed company that aims to promote and raise the profile of women in the UK fishery.

Contact the UKWIF on ukwomeninfisheries@gmail.com.

I (Madeleine Gustavsson) will be moving on to a new job and from the 1st of November I will be based at a research institute in Trondheim, Norway called Ruralis – the Institute for Rural and Regional Research.

I will continue to research the links between the blue economy, gender issues, and rural issues more broadly. If you want to keep in touch please email me at madeleine.gustavsson@ruralis.no.

Huge thanks again to everyone involved in making this project such a fantastic success. Take care and stay well during the challenging months ahead.
