About us
UK Women in Fisheries is a Community Interest Company (UKWIF CIC). The company’s objective is to highlight, support and promote the multiple roles that women play in the UK commercial fish sector be that in: catching; in the fish supply chain; in fishing businesses; in fishing families; fishing organisations or associations; in government, regulation and enforcement; in knowledge production and research; amongst other roles and positions.
UK Women in Fisheries is committed to protecting your personal information. We have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We will only use your information for the purpose as described and we do not pass on your details to any other third party unless you have given us permission to do so.
This Privacy Policy explains how we obtain, use and protect any personal information you provide to us whether online, by phone, email, post or other correspondence, and how we safeguard the privacy of visitors to our website.
The type of personal information we collect
When you become a member, sign up for an event, subscribe to online content such as our e-newsletter, or you telephone, email or engage with us via social media, we may receive and retain personal information about you on our secure server. GDPR requires that you confirm you are happy for us to both hold your details on our database and to contact you. To do so, we need you to please ‘opt in’ and give your consent.

Your main areas of interest in the Fish Industry

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:
When you ask to become a member of the UK WIF Network
When you sign up or register for an online or in person event
When you take part in a survey or research
When you call or email us or visit our website for information

Invite you UK WIF events and conferences
Send out e- newsletters, disseminate research, publications and other informational material about Women in UK Fisheries by email and or in the post.

Apply for funding for future projects that will benefit our members
Better understand our members roles in the Fish Industry
Plan future schemes of work for the benefit of our members.
We will only ever contact you where you have provided consent for us to do so. If you have provided your consent but you subsequently opt-out of all communications, we will no longer contact you via email, telephone or post. We will keep a record of your contact details and appropriate information to enable us to comply with your request not to be contacted by us.

Other than as set out in this policy or as required by law, we will never sell or pass on your personal information to any third-party organisation for their own purposes. We do not work with fundraising or marketing agencies.

Our forms have clear marketing preference questions and we always include information on how to opt-out when we send you marketing communications. If you don’t want to hear from us, we will respect your wishes.

How long we keep your information for
If you have actively engaged with us by becoming a member or by attending an event, or your contact details have been provided to us through any other means of engagement or communication, we will retain your information for as long as is relevant but for no longer than five years after your last interaction with UK Women in Fisheries after which your record will be archived.
If you request that we cease to communicate with you, we will still retain a record of your details but update your information so that we are able to comply with your contact request.
