Mission statement and Values workshop
In early January, on a bitterly cold day, whilst most of the UK was waking up to snow, or at least some scary looking ice, some of the directors of UK Women in Fisheries came together virtually for a pivotal workshop that marked an important milestone in the organisation’s journey.
The result? A comprehensive framework that not only defines who we are but also gives us clear authority and direction moving forward. Explore our mission and values in detail on our newly launched webpage
While each member of the team has always had an innate understanding of UKWIF’s mission, this workshop provided the opportunity to collaboratively articulate and document our purpose and shared values for the first time.
A collaborative and interactive session
This virtual gathering was a rare opportunity for our team to connect, as, like many in the industry, we all work long, inconsistent hours and we don’t often get the chance to meet in person. The session was interactive and filled with meaningful discussions, allowing us to explore each other’s values, long-term aspirations, and perspectives on the future of UKWIF.
One of the workshop’s highlights was the focus on how our core values already featured in everyone's personal values, which aligned perfectly with WIF’s values of Empowerment, Equality, and Passion should guide everything we do, inside and outside of UKWIF. From our internal processes to the external partnerships we form, these principles are the foundation of our decision-making and behaviour
Why this matters
Having our mission and values documented is not just a formality; it’s a tool that will shape the future of UKWIF. This clear, simple message ensures that we remain a values-driven organisation, informing our internal practices, community engagement (including deciding which organisations to partner with), and public advocacy (decision around what jobs we list, organisations we advertise and who we celebrate)
By solidifying our mission and values, we can approach every aspect of our work with intention, confidence, and a unified vision.
