Got Questions?

  • What is the WIF Mentoring Matchmaking Programme?
The programme connects women in fisheries through flexible, voluntary mentoring relationships. Mentors provide guidance, knowledge-sharing, and support, while mentees gain insights and encouragement in their careers. Learn more about mentoring here

  • How long does a typical mentoring relationship last?
Most mentoring relationships are expected to last around six months, but the timeframe can be adapted based on what works best for you and your mentoring partner.

  • What if I can’t commit to six months?
No problem! We still welcome all applications and can encourage our members to make us of Curious Career Conversations . These could be one-time or short-term meetings to exchange insights, swap skills and share ideas without a longer commitment.

  • How does the matching process work?
When you apply, you’ll complete a short survey to share your interests, career background, and goals. We use this information to make the best possible match between mentors and mentees. Apply here

  • Is there a fee to participate?
No, the mentoring programme is completely free for all WIF members. Our membership exists to nurture a community of women making waves through sisterhood and support.

  • What kind of support can I expect as a participant?
Throughout the programme, you’ll have access to resources on our website to help guide your mentoring journey. You can also reach out to us directly for advice or support.

  • How often should we meet?
That’s up to you and your mentor or mentee! Most pairs meet once a month, but you’re welcome to decide what suits your schedules and goals.

  • What should I do if the match isn’t working out?
You’re free to end the mentoring relationship at any time if it is no longer beneficial or comfortable. If the match doesn’t meet your expectations, please let us know. We’ll work with you to find a better fit or adjust as needed.

  • Is there any check-in throughout the programme?
Yes, we’ll reach out after six months to see how things are going and to gather feedback on your experience. You’ll get regular emails from our Network Coordinator to hear about how things are going. Please remember to share your photos and stories on social media too

  • Are mentoring meetings in person or online?
Meetings can be in person or online, depending on what you and your mentoring partner prefer. For safety, we recommend initial meetings online or in a public place.

  • I’m not a UK WIF member. Can I still apply?

The WIF Mentoring Matchmaking Programme is open to UK WIF members only. If you are not currently a member, feel free to join our network- it’s free
